Trauma therapy for the past that keeps arriving in the present

Something that happened once, or for years, or so early you have no clear memory of a time before it. The flat heavy weight that turns up long afterwards and looks like depression. The startle, the bracing, the sense of watching your own life from a step behind.

Online, trauma informed therapy for adults across London and the rest of the UK. We go at the pace you set. You never have to say more than you want to, and never before you are ready.

What is trauma therapy, and how does it help?

Trauma therapy is a regular, confidential conversation with a therapist trained to work with difficult history safely. It is not being made to relive anything. It is space to understand why the past still arrives in the present, and to loosen the grip it has.

Most people arrive carrying two things: what happened, and what they had to believe about themselves in order to survive it. That it was their fault. That they are too much. That they should be over it by now. We work on both, because the second one is usually what keeps the first one alive.

Sessions are online, fifty minutes, the same time each week. You speak from a place you already know is safe, and when the session ends you are still at home. For a lot of people doing trauma work, not having to walk back out onto the street afterwards is what makes it possible at all.

  • You set the pace, always. You never have to say more than you want to, and never before you are ready. Going slowly is not avoiding the work. In trauma therapy it often is the work.

  • Safety comes before anything else. Before anything is revisited, we build ground to stand on. Ways to stay present, ways to settle the nervous system, ways to feel safe enough in the room.

  • We work with the body, not just the story. Trauma lives in the nervous system as much as in memory. We pay attention to what your body is doing, not only to what happened.

  • Diagnosis welcome, not required. You do not need a PTSD diagnosis, or even clear memories, to start. If something still has a hold on you, that is reason enough to begin.

The parts of trauma therapy can actually reach

You cannot change what happened. What therapy can change is the grip it still has on the present, and the story you have had to tell yourself to survive it.

Uninvited

Flashbacks and intrusions

The memories, images and feelings that arrive without warning, and ways to stay anchored in the present when they do.

Always braced

Hypervigilance

The constant scanning for danger, often mistaken for anxiety. Helping an over-alert nervous system learn, slowly, that it is allowed to stand down.

Watching from outside

Numbing and dissociation

The going blank, the not-quite-being-here. Understanding it as protection rather than failure, and gently coming back.

The quiet conviction

Shame and self-blame

The belief that it was somehow your fault, or that you should be over it by now. Setting that weight down where it belongs.

Pulling away

Trust and relationships

How trauma reshapes closeness, the bracing for betrayal, and finding your way back to people at a pace that is safe.

Past tense

Making sense of the story

Integrating what happened so it becomes part of your history rather than a live wire, and reclaiming a sense of who you are now.

WHAT YOU MIGHT RECOGNISE

Frequently asked questions about trauma therapy

Will I have to relive it, or go into detail?

No. You never have to say more than you want to, and never before you are ready. A great deal of trauma work happens without recounting the event in detail at all. We go at your pace, always.

Do you work with childhood and complex trauma?

Yes. This is a core part of what we do. Our clinical lead is trauma informed and ACT based, with specialist experience in complex trauma, including survivors of trafficking and modern slavery.

What if I do not remember clearly, or at all?

That is common, particularly with things that happened early, and it does not rule you out. Trauma is held in the body and in patterns as much as in memory. You do not need a clear account of what happened in order to work with the effect it has had.

What approaches do you use?

Our work is trauma informed and, with our clinical lead, ACT based. The focus is on safety, staying present, and your relationship with what happened. Your therapist will talk you through what fits you rather than forcing one method.

What if I dissociate, or it becomes too much?

That is expected, and we are trained for it. A large part of the early work is building ways to stay grounded and safe, so that nothing moves faster than you can manage.

Can you help if I have a PTSD diagnosis?

Yes. We do not diagnose or prescribe, so a formal diagnosis is not something we make or require. If you already have one, we work alongside your GP and any specialist care you are receiving.

Is online therapy suitable for trauma?

For many people, yes. Being in a space you already know is safe can make trauma work feel more manageable rather than less, and the session ends with you still at home. Your therapist will help you set things up so you feel secure.

How much does trauma therapy cost, and is there a waiting list?

A one-hour assessment is £50. Ongoing sessions are £50 with a supervised trainee counsellor, or £125 with a fully qualified counsellor. There is no waiting list. Most people begin weekly sessions within a week of their assessment.

Not sure where to start?

You do not have to explain much, or have it worked out. Send us a message and a person will read it and write back within one working day. No obligation, and no pressure to book anything.
